Our Unit 871 Instructor, Jai, describes how the team is taking the opportunity to refine and enhance our English Training Programs.
At Lana Learn, we are proud to be contracted by the Defense Language Institute (DLI) to provide specialized language instruction for the Vietnamese military. The last four years have been a journey of constant growth. As we enter a 90-day pause, our team has embraced this opportunity to refine and enhance the effectiveness of our programs. We are excited to share the initiatives we’re focusing on during this time to ensure the program continues to meet the high standards of the Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC) and brings even more value to our students.
Key Team Contributions:
During the pause, our team has dedicated significant time and effort to reviewing the existing curriculum and implementing updates that will enrich our students’ learning experience. Below, we highlight the contributions of key team members who have played pivotal roles in this process.
Caleb Galipeau’s Contribution:
Caleb has made substantial progress in developing phonics and speaking programs tailored to address specific challenges faced by our students. With his expertise in phonology and language education, Caleb crafted a course focusing on key problem areas for Vietnamese learners. Additionally, he continues to create high-quality supplementary materials that will support these programs and ensure their successful implementation by the end of the pause.
Cedric Chigome’s Contribution:
Cedric has designed a comprehensive listening program that will be integrated into our teaching periods. This program is specifically designed to improve students’ core listening skills and enhance their communicative abilities. As the course progresses, Cedric will continue developing supplementary materials that support instructors’ ability to deliver effective lessons.
Emile van Heerden’s Contribution:
Emile has been focused on updating and refining the instructor files for the course materials. This ongoing process aims to ensure consistency in documentation and improve the overall quality of instructional support. Emil’s work enhances our reporting mechanisms and ensures our stakeholders receive accurate and timely feedback.
My Contribution:
As part of the team’s efforts, I have been focused on enhancing listening assessments to prepare students for their book quizzes better and improve their communicative abilities. These assessments complement Cedric’s listening program, reinforcing the key skills needed for success. Additionally, I am working on more effective ways to capture student performance data, enabling instructors to monitor progress and implement timely interventions when necessary. This data-driven approach will ensure our students receive the personalized support they need to excel.
Focus Areas During the 90-Day Pause:
The 90-day pause is an essential time for the team to refine the curriculum and address any existing gaps. Some of the key focus areas include:
- Curriculum Alignment: Ensuring all materials align with DLIELC standards and reflect the latest best practices in language education.
- Supplementary Materials Development: Creating additional resources to reinforce core teaching content and provide students with diverse learning tools.
- Data-Driven Instruction: Implementing systems to track better and assess student performance, allowing for targeted interventions to improve outcomes.
- Instructor Support: Continue to update and refine instructor resources to ensure consistency and effective teaching across all levels.
Conclusion:
The current pause provides the Lana Learn team with an opportunity to evaluate and refine every aspect of our programs. We are committed to continuously improving the quality of instruction and ensuring that our materials meet the highest standards. As we implement these enhancements, we look forward to seeing the positive impact on our students’ language skills. We are confident that these improvements will further strengthen the program and give our students the tools they need to succeed in their language learning journey.
