Unit 871’s Team Lead, Emile, provides an exciting Mid-Term Progress Update for Lana’s English Language Training Program.
As we approach the mid-term break, we are pleased to share an update on the progress of our 4th semester cohort at Unit 871, Hanoi, Vietnam. Despite initial challenges, our students have shown remarkable growth and dedication in Lana’s English language training (ELT) program. This reaffirms our commitment to achieving the Vietnam Ministry of National Defense’s goal of 30% English proficiency within the armed forces by 2030.
Since the semester began, our instructors have been addressing the unique needs of our 35 students with innovative teaching methods and a personalized approach. This has fostered a supportive and engaging learning environment, allowing for focused attention on each student.
We are proud to report significant strides in student progress. Their enthusiasm and hard work are evident, and we are confident in reaching our goals.
Academic Progress and Adjustments
All students have completed four book quizzes per level. Due to the late start, they will cover only four books per level before taking the mid-term American Language Course Placement Test (ALCPT). However, Class Charlie, which started at a lower proficiency level, will cover an additional book and take the ALCPT after the break to ensure a stronger foundation.
On the same test day, other classes (Alpha, Bravo) will conduct their fifth book quiz, aligning all classes to the same schedule. This ensures adequate preparation and collective progress.
Class Updates:
Class Alpha: Initial ALCPT average: 53%. Only 14% scored above 55%. Recent book quiz average: 95.8%. Improved ALCPT score: 64%. (11 students)
Class Bravo: Initial ALCPT average: 33%. Recent book quiz average: 86.4%. Improved ALCPT score: 42% (13 students)
Class Charlie: Initial ALCPT average: 23%. Recent book quiz average: 87.6%. ALCPT to be taken after the break. (11 students)
Importance of Adjustments
Tailoring the curriculum to meet each class’s specific needs ensures all students receive appropriate instruction and support. This approach builds a solid foundation in English, boosts confidence, and enhances motivation, leading to better ALCPT outcomes and contributing to our long-term goal of improving English proficiency within the armed forces. Our team is excited to take some time off during the mid-term break to visit the DLI in San Antonio, Texas. There the Lana Team will join the DLI training programs. This opportunity will allow us to improve our teaching techniques and better understand the student experience at DLI. We are truly thankful for the continued support and opportunities provided by our stakeholders. We look forward to sharing more updates as we move closer to our objectives.
