College scholarships awarded to program participants

Lana’s 21st CCLC program participants were awarded college scholarships and internship opportunities this month.

The 21st Century Program is happy to announce more college scholarships!

College scholarships are a vital lifeline for many students pursuing higher education. They offer financial support that can make all the difference in students achieving their academic dreams. These awards are based on various criteria like merit, need, or specific talents. They can significantly alleviate the financial burden of college tuition, fees, and other expenses. Their importance cannot be overstated, as they help bridge the gap between a student’s aspirations and their financial reality.

One of the most significant benefits of scholarships is their ability to make college more accessible to students from diverse backgrounds, like those at Cardozo Education Campus. The student population consists of 95% Hispanic/Latino and Black students. Additionally, 72% of students are at risk, meaning that they require intervention in order to succeed academically. 43% of students are English Language Learners (ELLs) with different language, academic, and social-emotional needs. For many of these students, the cost of attending college is a major barrier, but scholarships can level the playing field. They can ensure that deserving students have the opportunity to pursue their education regardless of their financial circumstances. This accessibility is crucial for creating a more equitable society, where talent and hard work, rather than financial means, determine success.

Scholarship Recipients

Last month, Matthew wrote about two young men who are going to have bright futures due to the scholarships that they received! This month, it is time to give a shout-out to the ladies! Jaqueline, Briyana, and Hope from Cardozo are three of the 2024 recipients of the Amazon Future Engineers Scholarship. They each received a $40K scholarship to the college of their choice and a summer internship at the Amazon Future Engineers headquarters in Virginia! We are incredibly proud of their hard work. We know that this scholarship will make a difference in their post-secondary educational journey!
