Teacher Spotlight: Bringing Global Insight and Leadership

Our Unit 871 Team Lead, Emile, provides a teacher spotlight for one of our newest ELTP instructors: Amanda Johnson.

This month, we are spotlighting one of the newest additions to the Lana Learn team: Amanda Johnson. Amanda is a seasoned educator whose career spans four continents and a remarkable range of teaching and leadership roles. In this teacher spotlight, you will learn about the global insight and leadership Amanda brings to the team.

Amanda’s Experience

Amanda brings over a decade of experience in education, curriculum development, and program management. From her early work training senior U.S. government officials in Washington, D.C., to leading English departments in Myanmar and shaping service-learning programs in Vietnam, Amanda’s journey reflects a deep commitment to empowering learners and building inclusive, inquiry-driven classrooms.

Teaching Philosophy

Her teaching philosophy centers on fostering independence, confidence, and critical thinking. “I want my students to become lifelong learners,” Amanda says. “That means creating a classroom where curiosity is encouraged, and students feel safe to explore, question, and lead.” Amanda’s teaching philosophy comes from a wealth of international education experience.

Global Education Roadmap

Amanda’s resume reads like a global education roadmap: she’s taught IB Theory of Knowledge in Ecuador, led humanities and ESL programs in Vietnam, and developed youth empowerment initiatives in Nicaragua. She also has experience working closely with U.S. Government programs, including USAID’s Global Development Lab and the Partnering to Accelerate Entrepreneurship Initiative, where she designed training strategies and evaluated grant proposals.

Joining Lana Learn

At Lana Learn, Amanda is excited to collaborate with a team of equally accomplished educators. “There’s a real sense of purpose here,” she shares. “We’re not just teaching English—we’re helping students grow into confident communicators. I’m especially proud to support the growth of soldiers in the Vietnamese military, helping these students and officers reach their goals within their work.”

Qualifications and Impact

Amanda is a qualified teacher certified by the state of Florida and holds a TEFL certification. Her leadership, passion for equity, and global perspective make her a powerful asset to the Lana Learn mission.
