Spring SAT Programs Launch to serve 100+ DC Students

Our Test Prep Program Manager, Matt, discusses Lana’s exciting Spring SAT Programs in the Washington, DC area.

As the second half of the school year begins, so does SAT prep for America’s high school juniors. Students benefit greatly from test prep “bootcamps” in which they spend 6 to 9 weeks intensely preparing for the SAT. At Lana, we are proudly serving over 100 students across two partner schools this spring. Our Spring SAT Programs at Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School and Sandy Spring Friends School are off to a wonderful start.

Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School

At Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School, we are instructing the entire junior class. This means we are conducting five full classes during regular school hours twice a week. As a former full-time high school teacher, it has been a pleasure to re-enter normal teaching duties twice a week. I developed a curriculum specifically catered toward classroom learning that students have been enjoying so far. Integrating with a school community is paramount; I have had great success in forming meaningful connections with students and staff. My top priorities are delivering high quality curriculum and capturing student data throughout the program. I am eager to share the results of students’ growth once they take their March SAT!

Sandy Spring Friends School

At Sandy Spring Friends School, we are offering an after-school SAT class for interested students. We set a record for program registration this year at 17 students! In order to ensure all students have personalized instruction, I have made setting up a one-on-one meeting with me an assignment. This guarantees that each student has an opportunity to receive personalized feedback and advice for reaching their score goals. I am excited to share the results of this program when students take their March SAT!

Individualized Tutoring

In addition to our spring SAT classes, Lana has been offering individualized tutoring to students. So far, students have thoroughly enjoyed personalized instruction. Most students this year requested a focus on math instruction which has been fun as a former math teacher. A gap that I find is common among students is math “grammar.” Mathematics possesses vocabulary that is not always consistently delivered to students. As a result, students may find themselves lost among their peers if they miss a step in a lesson. Given that math is sequentially learned, it is critical to identify these areas of growth and provide students the tools necessary to make it to the next step.

Conclusion

Lana’s Spring SAT Programs are off to a great start. We are capturing data, delivering personalized curriculum, and forming quality relationships with our partner schools. We wish all our students success this spring as we prepare for the SAT and ACT!
