Progress and Development for Incoming Cohort of Students

Our Unit 871 Team Lead, Emile, details the progress and development that the team has made for their next cohort of students.

I am pleased to share that our team has made significant strides in completing our assigned tasks as we prepare for our next cohort of students. We have reached a 52% progress completion of our total tasks with more than half of our timeline remaining. This progress is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our team.

Program Readiness & Improvement

Our focus has been on improving supplementary ALC materials for the ELT program. This includes worksheets, quizzes, listening activities, and other learning materials designed to help our students on their path to learning English. These enhancements ensure that our instructional quality remains high and that our students receive the best possible support in their language learning journey.

Systems & Infrastructure Enhancements

We have made significant strides in improving our systems and infrastructure. By implementing DLIELC educational and operational procedures in Vietnam, we are creating a robust and efficient system that supports long-term program success. Our efforts include improving documentation for sustainability and servicing IT equipment to ensure seamless execution. Additionally, we are enhancing training materials for internal company SOPs, which allows the team to continuously learn about updated systems such as Pre and Post ALCPT procedures, PTO and leave-taking procedures, documentation filing and safekeeping, and the standardization of training materials for new digital teaching platforms like Diffit.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

We have conducted a comprehensive six-year program performance review. This review helps us identify areas of improvement and celebrate successes. We maintain ongoing reports to ODC, CO, COR, and DLIELC, ensuring transparent communication with all stakeholders. Our agenda is shared with our stakeholders and partners, allowing them to review our progress and provide valuable feedback.

Team Training & Development

Our team continues to advance their skills through various training sessions. We take pride in learning from each other and have created training sessions on skills learned both within and outside of work. For example, two of our instructors have developed a Listening Skills Development training course and a Pronunciation Skills training course to assist our ELT students. Additionally, training for digital resources like Diffit has been created to teach the team how to use it effectively.

80/20 Principle Training

I have been focusing on training my team on the 80/20 principle (the Pareto Principle). This principle helps us understand that 80% of results come from 20% of efforts, allowing us to identify the most impactful activities. Here are some key points from the training:

Understanding the Principle: The concept that 80% of results come from 20% of efforts helps in identifying the most impactful activities.

Application in Various Fields:

  • Business: Focus on the 20% of customers who generate 80% of sales.
  • Time Management: Prioritize tasks that yield the highest productivity.
  • Quality Control: Address the 20% of issues causing 80% of defects.
  • Identifying Key Factors: Analyze and identify the critical few factors that contribute the most to desired outcomes.
  • Efficiency and Effectiveness: Focus resources on high-impact areas to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and adjust priorities based on the Pareto Principle to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Real-life Examples: Provide case studies or examples where the Pareto Principle has been successfully applied.
  • Limitations: Discuss the limitations of the principle, such as its generalization and the need for context-specific analysis.

Our team remains fully engaged and productive. We are strategically strengthening the program, refining systems, and enhancing instructional quality. This ensures Unit 871 ELT is even better positioned to deliver high-impact training when classes resume.
