Our Unit 871 Team Lead, Emile, details what’s in store for ALCPT Test Prep Week at Lana’s English Language Training Program.
As we head into Week 14 of the Lana Learn ELT Program at Unit 871, the excitement is building for one of the most important milestones of the term: ALCPT Test Prep Week, starting Monday, August 18. This is the final stretch before the midterm, and our instructors and students are working together to make sure everyone feels confident and ready.
Why This Week Matters
The American Language Course Placement Test (ALCPT) is a key checkpoint in our program. It helps us measure progress, guide placement, and ensure students are on track for future goals. Prep Week is all about giving learners the tools and strategies they need to succeed.
What’s Happening
Here’s what the week looks like:
- Mock tests to simulate real exam conditions
- Marking sessions for feedback and improvement
- Afternoon prep blocks tailored to student needs
- Optional CBT sessions from 15:00–16:00, Monday–Thursday
- Midterm ALCPT test on Friday, followed by an admin wrap-up
What We’re Focusing On
Our instructors—Amanda (Bravo), Isaac (Charlie), and Nick (Alpha)—are guiding students through practical strategies for success:
- Listening: Stay ahead of the audio, use context clues, and practice with timed recordings
- Reading: Skim first, tackle easy questions, and use elimination strategies
- Time Management: Pace yourself—about 30 minutes per section, with a few minutes for review
- Stress Management: Practice full-length tests, use breathing techniques, and stay positive
Common Pitfalls to Avoid
- Spending too long on one question
- Skipping practice tests
- Ignoring instructions or the clock
Building Good Habits
- Create a weekly study schedule
- Use podcasts and audiobooks
- Read widely to boost vocabulary and grammar
Final Thoughts
Prep Week isn’t just about the test—it’s about building confidence and strong study habits that last. With clear goals, focused practice, and support from our instructors, we’re setting students up for success on test day and for the future ALCPT Final at the end of this cohort and beyond.
Let’s finish strong!
