Our Unit 871 Team Lead, Emile, discusses our team’s commitment to excellence as we prepare for the next cohort and onboard new instructors.
As we continue to grow and strive for excellence, Lana Learn is proud to share an update on our recent achievements and future goals. Our current focus is on the successful onboarding of our newest team members and the preparation for the arrival of our next group of Unit 871 students for cohort 005. This new chapter in our journey marks a significant milestone, and we are excited and eager to embrace it.
Recent Achievements and Future Goals
Our onboarding program is designed to ensure that new hires are well-acquainted with Lana Learn’s mission, people, and foundational tools for success. Over the course of seven days, we provide comprehensive training and support to equip our team with the knowledge and skills they need to excel in their roles.
Day 1: Welcome to Lana Learn
On the first day, we focus on acquainting new hires with our mission, values, and culture. The day begins with a welcome breakfast, followed by icebreaker activities and individual introductions. Team leaders are introduced, and new employees receive an overview of the company, program schedules, and our ELT program. The day concludes with IT setup and an introduction to communication tools.
Day 2: Master the Tools
The second day is dedicated to hands-on training with our primary digital tools and collaboration systems. New hires participate in training sessions for SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft Planner, and CoPilot. The agenda also includes trainer presentations, practice tasks, and setting up tasks in Planner to ensure proficiency with our tools.
Day 3: Teaching the ALC Curriculum
Day three focuses on building confidence with the ALC curriculum, lesson planning, and classroom delivery. The agenda includes an overview of the ALC curriculum, training on course materials, and peer work sessions to review and refine lesson plans. The day concludes with group presentations and feedback on lessons.
Day 4: Familiarize with Unit 871 Base
The objective of day four is to familiarize staff with their work environment, base personnel, and classroom logistics. Activities include a base tour, meeting with base officials, and training on filing procedures, lockers, printing, and language lab technology.
Day 5: Build Community & Connection
Day five aims to reinforce team culture, build external partnerships, and allow time for open questions. The agenda includes visits to cultural institutions, team-building activities, and a Q&A session to wrap up the day’s events.
Day 6: Setup Classroom
The focus of day six is to organize classroom space and arrange materials to prepare for effective teaching. This includes setting up the classroom and ensuring all materials are in place.
Day 7: Prepare Lessons
The final day is dedicated to finalizing lesson planning for classes. New hires work on preparing their lessons to ensure they are ready for the upcoming cohort of students.
Preparing for Cohort 005
As we prepare for the arrival of our next cohort of military students at Unit 871 in Hanoi, Vietnam, our team is working diligently to ensure a smooth and successful start to the ELT program. The program’s objective is to enhance the English language skills of Vietnamese military officers using ALC course materials from DLIELC. Our goal is to prepare officers for specialized English in follow-on technical training programs in the US.
