Lana Learn Vietnam: Progress and Preparations for Cohort 005

Our Unit 871 Team Lead, Emile, details the progress and preparations being made for the new cohort in Lana’s English Language Program.

As we welcome the start of 2025 and prepare for the upcoming Cohort and Lunar New Year in Vietnam, we are thrilled to share this exciting update with you. Our steady state program, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Defense (MND), is dedicated to achieving the ambitious goal of having 30% of the Vietnam Armed Forces fluent in English by 2030. Please read on to learn more about the progress and preparations we are making for the upcoming cohort.

During this admin period, we have been hard at work analyzing data and systems from our previous Cohort 004. This has been a crucial time for us to refine our internal processes and identify new opportunities for student growth. Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve been up to:

Initial Success and Continued Growth

At the start of the cohort 004, 14% of our students who took the initial American Language Course Placement Test (ALCPT) scored above 55%, making them eligible to take the English Comprehension Level (ECL) exam. Specifically, 5 out of 35 students (14%) were eligible for the ECL test required for follow-on training programs. This number increased significantly throughout the year. After the Mid-Term ALCPT, 10 students (28.57%) were eligible, and by the Final ALCPT, 16 students (45.71%) had scored above 55%.

Class Highlights

  • Class Alpha: Starting with an initial overall ALCPT class average score of 55%, Class Alpha saw their average score rise to 64% after the Mid-Term ALCPT, and an impressive 71% by the Final ALCPT. This marks a total growth of 29.09%.
  • Class Bravo: Beginning with an initial ALCPT class average score of 35%, Class Bravo improved to 41% by the Mid-Term ALCPT, and achieved a final average score of 50.5%. This represents a growth percentage of 44.29%.
  • Class Charlie: With an initial ALCPT class average score of 30%, Class Charlie increased their average to 43% by the Final ALCPT. This indicates a growth of 43.33%.

Innovations for Cohort 005

We have seen great results for cohort 004. To further strengthen our efforts, our team has been busy developing new strategies to make our program even more effective. A key insight from our analysis is the need for more tailored curriculums focusing on pronunciation and listening skills. We are excited to implement these improvements in our upcoming cohort. By refining our curriculum, we aim to provide targeted support that will help our students achieve their language goals. Looking Ahead

Taking this time to enhance our program has been an exciting journey. We are eager to share the results of these improvements with you as we start this new cohort in 2025. Our goals for this year are to further strengthen our program and deepen our relationship with our students. Stay tuned for more updates on our students’ progress and the impact of our enhanced curriculum. We kick off 2025 with a new cohort of students on the 10th of February.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we are making significant strides towards our goal of empowering the Vietnam Armed Forces with English proficiency.
