Our Unit 871 Senior Instructor, Jai, outlines how collaborative planning enhances our team’s effectiveness and improves students’ outcomes.
At Lana Learn, our strength lies in our people. Our team brings diverse skills, backgrounds, and insights to the table. When we plan together, we teach better. Collaborative planning helps us design stronger lessons, support one another, and stay aligned with program goals. This month, we reflect on the power of teamwork in lesson preparation.
Shared Goals, Shared Growth
When instructors plan as a team, we create a shared vision for student success. We align on lesson objectives, classroom strategies, and the skills students need to develop. This ensures consistency across the program. Collaborative planning also means we can divide responsibilities—one instructor focuses on visuals, another on grammar, and another on assessment. This saves time and improves quality.
Combining Strengths
Each teacher brings something unique to the table. Some excel at pacing, others at creative activities or student engagement. When we plan together, we share those strengths. New teachers gain confidence by hearing how experienced colleagues approach a lesson. Veteran teachers benefit from fresh ideas and perspectives. Everyone learns something new.
Real-Time Problem Solving
Collaborative planning allows us to anticipate and solve problems before they reach the classroom. If a lesson is too long, we adjust the timing. We need to be flexible. If a grammar point is tricky, we add scaffolding. If an activity falls flat, we replace it. This kind of teamwork helps prevent frustration, for both teachers and students.
Building a Culture of Trust
Planning together builds trust. We talk about what works and what doesn’t. We offer feedback, not criticism. Over time, this creates a team culture where teachers support each other, share resources freely, and learn together. Students notice this unity, too—it gives them a stable, focused, and confident learning environment.
Improved Outcomes for Students
Students benefit directly from better planning. They get more consistent instruction, clearer explanations, and well-paced lessons. Teachers are more prepared, more confident, and better able to respond to student needs. The classroom becomes a space where learning flows.
Moving Forward
As we continue refining our curriculum and instructional strategies, collaborative planning will remain a central part of our process. It makes our teaching stronger and our team more united. We encourage every teaching team to make time for planning together. The results speak for themselves.
