How AI Supports Language Teachers in a Changing World

Our Unit 871 Instructor, Jai, offers insights on how in our evolving world, AI supports language teachers in their educational efforts.

As teachers, many of us have wondered: will artificial intelligence (AI) take over our jobs? This is a natural concern in a world that is changing fast. But rather than replacing us, AI can be a powerful tool to support us in the classroom. It can help teachers save time, create useful materials, and offer more support to our students. AI supports language teachers in their efforts to improve students’ learning.

At Lana Learn, we are proud to work with the Defense Language Institute (DLI) to deliver the American Language Course (ALC) curriculum. Our team of teachers supports Vietnamese military officers in their English language learning journey. With the help of AI, we can make our lessons more effective and engaging without losing the human touch that is so important in education.

Lesson Planning

AI can assist teachers with planning lessons by generating activities based on clear learning goals. AI can offer suggestions in seconds if a teacher needs a warm-up, a vocabulary review game, or an exit ticket. It can also help adjust lessons for struggling students or those ready for a challenge.

Creating Materials Quickly

One of the best things about AI is how quickly it can create classroom materials. Teachers can use AI to make worksheets, quizzes, vocabulary flashcards, and even conversation questions. For programs like ours, where materials need to match the ALC curriculum, AI can help adapt tasks to different language levels while keeping the goals of each lesson in focus.

Support for Listening and Speaking

In language learning, listening and speaking are key skills. AI can help by creating short scripts for listening practice. These scripts can be adjusted to match the student’s English level. Teachers can also use AI to make pronunciation activities or simple dialogues for speaking practice. This saves time and gives students more opportunities to hear and use English.

Assessment and Feedback

AI can also support teachers when it comes to assessment. It can help write rubrics for writing and speaking tasks. It can suggest feedback on student writing and help spot patterns in common mistakes. This allows teachers to focus on individual student needs and provide better support. (AiAdmin, 2023)

Saving Time for What Matters Most

AI can also help with everyday tasks like writing emails, creating newsletters, or preparing slides for a workshop. By saving time on these tasks, teachers have more time for what matters most: connecting with students, answering questions, and building a learning environment that feels safe and supportive.

AI will never replace the value of a good teacher. At Lana Learn, we believe in using the best tools available to support student success. AI is just one of these tools. When used wisely, it helps us do more, teach better, and continue providing high-quality instruction to the Vietnamese officers we are proud to support.
