Our Academic Coach, Hailey, highlights academic achievements of students at Thurgood Marshall Academy in the HIT program.
As we approach the final academic quarter at Thurgood Marshall Academy (TMA), the High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) program has become more essential than ever in supporting our students. I am privileged to work with students across all grade levels in courses such as Algebra I and II, Statistics, Precalculus, and Geometry. It has been a rewarding experience working with such dedicated, hardworking students who are truly committed to their academic achievements.
Student Performance
At the start of the spring semester, I began supporting math students who struggled to meet academic expectations previously. Many entered our sessions with disbelief in themselves to improve their academic standing. I am ecstatic to report that the data has been encouraging and a true testament to their success.
Upon reviewing students’ progress reports I have highlighted the following areas of growth:
- At the start of the quarter, only 23% of students on my tutoring roster were passing. Now, 62% of those students are passing.
- 77% of all students have raised their math grade average by at least 5 percentage points.
- 85% of all students report improved work completion and better understanding of new math concepts.
Looking to the Future
As the school year progresses, I am committed to helping all students achieve measurable improvements in their math performance. My goal is for each student to improve their math grade by the end of this spring semester. Over the past few months, there has been a noticeable shift in students’ self-perception regarding their academic abilities. This transformation has made my experience as an Academic Coach fulfilling and rewarding. HIT tutoring allows students to not only realize their academic achievements, but to build the self-efficacy necessary to succeed.
