Fostering a growth mindset furthers student development

Lana Learn instructors use the academic growth paradigm for fostering a growth mindset amongst adult English language learners.

Fostering a growth mindset is essential for adult students’ personal and professional development. The academic growth paradigm emphasizes the importance of developing a growth mindset, which is the belief that one’s abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. Adult students who embrace this paradigm are more likely to succeed in their academic pursuits, be motivated to learn, and be willing to take on new challenges.

Teachers can foster the academic growth paradigm by implementing the following into their classroom routines.

Problem-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered approach that involves students in authentic problem-solving processes and fosters students’ self-regulation and teamwork. Teachers can help learners become responsible for their own learning by addressing student learning needs and negative behaviors from a place of trust and positive relationships.
