Our HIT Program Manager, Maya, describes a culminating event commemorating two years of a successful HIT Program.
This past month, Lana Learn celebrated the outstanding achievements of the High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) program in Washington, DC. Through our successful HIT program, we served over 300 students at four high-need DC high schools: IDEA Public Charter School, Thurgood Marshall Academy, Theodore Roosevelt High School, and H.D. Woodson High School. Partnering with these wonderful schools has been an incredibly rewarding experience. We provided students with individualized support in math, ELA, and helped them excel even outside the classroom.
The HIT program was initially created to address the learning loss caused by the pandemic, focusing on reinforcing core subjects through one-on-one or small group sessions. However, the program’s impact extended far beyond academics. Students developed trust in their Academic Coaches, fostering mentorship relationships that went beyond just learning. Social and emotional growth accompanied academic progress, creating a well-rounded support system for our students. The accomplishments of the HIT program are truly worth celebrating.
A Celebration for our Partners
During the final week of programming, we invited partners from each of our schools to our office for a celebration. We provided snacks, drinks, and even supported a local business by ordering cupcakes with our logo on the top. The event was well attended, with representatives from most of the schools we collaborated with. Even a member of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) HIT team made an appearance.
As we reflect on the past two years, the success of the HIT program is a testament to the power of collaboration, dedication, and the shared commitment to student success. The relationships built, the progress made, and the student achievement remind us of the profound impact that targeted support can have. As we close this chapter, we look forward to continuing our work in education, inspired by the accomplishments of the HIT program. We’re eager to explore new opportunities to serve our community.
