Our Unit 871 Instructor, Dung, writes about the importance of setting the stage for success in welcoming a new cohort of students.
Every new cohort marks the beginning of a new journey. New students arrive with different experiences, learning styles, and goals. Some are just beginning to learn English, while others already have a solid foundation. Whatever their starting point, each cohort brings new opportunities for learning and growth.
This semester, our program includes four classes at different proficiency levels. Students begin their learning journey with ALC Books 1, 4, 7, and 10, allowing instruction to match their current abilities. I am supporting Class Delta, which starts with ALC Book 1. It is exciting to work with learners as they take their first steps in building a strong foundation in English.
Building Strong Foundations
The first few weeks of a course are some of the most important. This is when students become familiar with classroom routines, expectations, and learning strategies. It is also when instructors begin to understand each student’s strengths, challenges, and learning style.
A positive start helps students feel comfortable participating in class. As confidence grows, they become more willing to ask questions, work with classmates, and use English in meaningful ways.
Learning at Every Level
One of the strengths of our program is that students are placed at the level that best matches their current ability. Although each class follows a different starting point, every learner shares the same goal of improving their English skills.
As educators, we adapt our lessons to meet students where they are. We encourage steady progress by providing clear guidance, engaging activities, and plenty of opportunities to practice. Every small achievement becomes another step towards greater confidence and stronger communication.
Looking Ahead
As we begin this new cohort, there is a sense of excitement and possibility in the classroom. Over the coming months, students will develop new skills, overcome challenges, and gain confidence in using English.
Learning a language is a journey that takes time, effort, and persistence. With the support of their instructors and classmates, students can make steady progress and achieve their goals.
Every cohort starts with a first lesson. It is always rewarding to see where that journey leads.
