Reflections on Classroom Time with Lana Learn

Our Unit 871 Instructor, Dung, reflects on her classroom time with Lana Learn’s English Language Training Program.

As this semester comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on my journey with Lana Learn so far. When I first joined the program, I was still learning about the program, the students, and the daily operations.

This cohort felt very different. I spent much more time with the students through classroom support, review lessons, and additional class coverage. Because of this, I had more opportunities to interact with learners, observe their progress, and understand their needs more closely.

Student Growth

At the beginning of the cohort, many students were quiet and careful in class. This was understandable, especially because they are military officers from different backgrounds and age groups. Some students were confident from the start, while others needed more time to feel comfortable speaking English in front of others.

As the weeks passed, I began to notice meaningful changes. Students became more willing to participate in discussions and additional activities. Group work became more active, and classroom interactions felt more natural. Even students who were initially hesitant started speaking more confidently during lessons and review sessions. Seeing this progress has been one of the most rewarding parts of the cohort.

This experience reminded me that language learning is about much more than grammar and vocabulary. Confidence, trust, and classroom atmosphere also play an important role. Students learn best when they feel supported and comfortable making mistakes. Creating this kind of environment requires patience, encouragement, and strong communication between instructors and learners.

Personal Growth

Throughout the cohort, I also learned a great deal about myself. Working closely with students helped me better understand classroom dynamics and the importance of flexibility in teaching. Every class is different, and successful lessons often depend on adapting to students’ needs in the moment.

Beyond the classroom, I also appreciated the teamwork within the program. Instructors work closely together to create a positive learning experience for students. This strong collaboration made my first full cohort both enjoyable and meaningful.

Conclusion

As the cohort ends, I feel grateful for the opportunity to be part of this program. Although a course may only last a few months, the experiences and connections built during that time can have a lasting impact. I now look forward to supporting the next cohort with greater confidence, experience, and appreciation for the journey ahead.
