Unit 871 Update: Cohort 006 Nears the Midterm Milestone

Our Supervisory ESL Instructor, Emile, remarks on the upcoming ALCPT Midterm for Unit 006 — a major milestone for this cohort.

Cohort 006 completed their fourth book quiz today. One book quiz remains before the midterm ALCPT and the midterm break. Tet is also close, and many students are excited to return home. This point in the term can be challenging. Students often lose focus as the break approaches. That is where the most important instructor work begins.

Why the Midterm ALCPT Matters

The midterm ALCPT is a key checkpoint for our instructors. It provides crucial data on student progress and skill gaps. This data helps instructors adjust instruction after the break. It also strengthens preparation for the final ALCPT later in the cohort.

A Unique Cohort, With Real Challenges

Cohort 006 entered with a lower admissions threshold than previous cohorts. The acceptance threshold was adjusted to 20% to ensure a viable cohort size. This means many learners began at a very low proficiency level. Low starting levels can impact confidence and motivation over time.

How We Keep Students Engaged

We reinforce progress through clear goals and consistent encouragement. We celebrate growth, because small wins matter at low levels. Additionally, we also use structured peer support when students need extra help. These sessions support students who score below 70% on book quizzes. Peer mentors use guided questions, modeling, and self-correction strategies. We maintain momentum with interactive practice and review. Role-play and gamified quizzes help sustain effort and attention. We also respond quickly when higher books reduce quiz scores.

Professional Development Keeps Our Team Sharp

Our team invests in Professional Development training to learn from each other. These sessions share teaching methods and effective online platforms. They support long-term program stability and instructor growth. They also build excitement and strong collaboration across the team.

Our Mission Continues

We remain committed to supporting the Ministry of National Defense goal. That goal is 30% English proficiency across the armed forces by 2030.

Thank you to our stakeholders and partners for continued support. We encourage you to follow our future progress as we continue steadfast on our mission.
