Building Success and Adapting to Student Needs at Unit 871

Our Supervisory ESL Instructor, Emile, provides an update on how the team is (literally) weathering storms and adapting to student needs.

October has brought both challenges and growth to our team at Unit 871 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Recent typhoons forced us to pause in-person instruction, disrupting our regular classroom routines and schedules. Despite the weather setbacks, our instructors remained committed to student success and quickly shifted to remote teaching. We provided students with worksheets, grammar reviews, vocabulary flashcards, and online games to reinforce previously covered material. Even through the harshest storms, our team ensured learning never stopped and students stayed active in their English development.

ALCPT Preparations

Now, we enter the final two weeks before our students sit for the ALCPT exam on October 29th. This marks the culmination of months of hard work, dedication, and steady progress in language acquisition. Midterm results gave students a much-needed morale boost, showing that their efforts up to that point had truly paid off. Instructors are working hard to prepare students for the final ALCPT, using smart strategies and consistent practice.

We simulate full ALCPT mock tests in real test conditions to help students feel confident and reduce exam anxiety. Instructors use games, flashcards, and online tools to reinforce learning and make review sessions more engaging. Grammar is reviewed weekly, and advanced vocabulary is introduced from higher-level books to expand student knowledge. Listening practice is part of our daily routine, helping students sharpen comprehension and prepare for the test format.

Beyond the ALCPT

After the ALCPT, our team will take a short break before entering our admin and professional development week. During this time, we’ll complete administrative tasks and prepare for the arrival of our next cohort. Our goal is to welcome new students with strong support and a well-prepared learning environment. We aim to help them grow their English skills and prepare for future careers in the Vietnam Military.

Our mission remains clear: Support the Ministry of National Defense in helping 30% of the armed forces become English proficient by 2030. Thank you to our partners and supporters for believing in our work and helping us make a lasting impact. Together, we’re building a brighter future through language learning and teamwork.
